North Myrtle Beach was founded more than 30 years ago when the communities of Windy Hill, Crescent Beach, Ocean Drive and Cherry Grove united to form one of the best South Carolina beaches. It was originally inhabited by the Winyah and Waccamaw Indians, and the Spanish arrived in the 1500’s. The area was relatively uninhabited until after the Civil War when a railroad was constructed through the Grand Strand.
