Myrtle Beach, South Carolina History:
Myrtle Beach family vacations are a tradition that began more than a century ago with visitors traveling by horse, buggy and ferry to spend a day in the sand and sun on the mostly unoccupied beach. During War World II, Myrtle Beach actually was the site of a prisoner of war camp. Approximately 600 German POWs were housed here and while imprisoned, they helped build the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. Now there are plenty of Myrtle Beach family resorts for the thousands of vacationers that visit every year.
