Permanent exhibitions include the Carolina Piedmont Hall’s Landscapes and Lifeways: The Carolina Piedmont 600 Years Ago and Today. Compare the present landscape with the Piedmont of the 1400s, before European exploration and settlement. More than 200 mounted African animals and an outstanding collection of African artifacts provide unique learning opportunities. See an elephant, giraffe and lions in naturalistic settings as well as African masks, tools and musical instruments. Explore the stars and planets in an out-of-this-world experience at the Settlemyre Planetarium. The planetarium’s star projector and domed ceiling allow visitors to tour the solar system or voyage to the stars.
