Poinsett Bridge

The oldest intact bridge (1820) in S.C. once served as an important link in State Road, which connected Charleston with the mountain communities in North Carolina. The bridge is named for Joel R. Poinsett, director of the S.C. Board of Public Works during the design of the road. Poinsett gained greater fame for introducing the poinsettia to the United States. The graceful 14-foot Gothic arch stone bridge spans the Little Gap Creek.
