The Island was first inhabited by the indigenous Seewee Indians and later the English. Legend has it that the only other occupants of the island were pirates who buried their treasures for safekeeping in the deserted dunes and woods. During the Revolutionary War a British Army contingent of 2,500 men attempted to raid a Colonial encampment on adjacent Sullivan's Island. Many men drowned and the attack failed when the force attempted to cross the treacherous waters of the Breach Inlet between the two islands. The area was of significance again during the Civil War, as a point of departure for the CSS Hunley, the first submarine to sink an enemy vessel. Today the island welcomes visitors to its six miles of white sandy beaches and to Wild Dunes Resort, a 1,600-acre oceanfront paradise offering world-class golf, top-ranked tennis and recreation programs, three restaurants and over two miles of pristine beach. Stay in your choice of the AAA Four Diamond Boardwalk Inn, a villa or luxury home.

Jim Harrison's paintings of farm landscapes, country stores, and small town architecture afford viewers the opportunity to once again "go home." Jim's art and writing have placed him among the nation's most important chroniclers of earlier twentieth century rural life. His paintings of landscapes, seascapes, old buildings and barns bring back special momories.

What gives Charleston eateries so much of their charm and reputation is, of course, wonderful, delicious food. And what could be more Charleston than an 1886 home named after an abandoned dog and complete with its own ghost? Long past the life of fluffy Poogan, guests have flocked to this restaurant for wonderful Lowcountry creations like Carolina Crabcakes, Calabash Seafood platters, and Bread Pudding in Boubon Sauce.
Oh, and the ghost? That would be Zoe St. Amand, a long-dead spinster who purportedly still visits her old home, raising a few eyebrows - but never causing harm. Rave reviews from Travel Channel, Food Network, Southern Living and Martha Stewart.

Designed by George W. Cobb and built in 1967, this course was redesigned by world famous architect Pete Dye in 1994. The scenic course is cut through beautiful stands of magnolias and live oaks. Rich in history, Robber's Row is set atop former Civil War grounds on the marsh side of the plantation and features historical markers on several holes describing events relevant to the area. Although tee-shot landing areas are quite generous, approach shots require accuracy to the well-bunkered greens.
