The manufacturing industry is chief work giver in the region.

 

  • Michelin USA has its main company headquarters in Greenville and production plants in Anderson, Lexington and Spartanburg.

  • In Greer, between Greenville and Spartanburg,  BMW produces industry leading automobiles at its South Carolina manufacturing plant.  40 of BMW’s 170 North American suppliers have chosen to place operations in South Carolina.  

  • 124 German companies (along with 94 support enterprises) employ over 20,000 people in South Carolina.

  • 88 British companies (along with 80 enterprises support enterprises) employ over 9,000 employees.

Tourism is South Carolina’s top industry, supporting the jobs of nearly one in ten South Carolinians.
