Marlboro CountyBennettsville

Founded in 1819 and named for Thomas Bennett, a former governor of South Carolina, Bennettsville is the county seat of Marlboro County in the heart of the state's agricultural belt. Legend has it that the land is so rich, it once was sold by the pound instead of the acre. Bennettsville offers a fine collection of antebellum and Victorian homes, a historic district, the Marlboro County Historical Museum, shopping, restaurants and accommodations. It is also a stop along the South Carolina Cotton Trail.
