Charleston CountySummerville

This scenic town was originally populated by Lowcountry citizens who retreated here from Charleston in the summer to escape malaria. By 1891, its reputation as a health resort grew nationwide. A portion of the town, including 700 buildings, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Summerville's public parks, its friendly town square with shops in restored old buildings lovingly preserved old homes and gardens, reflect its reputation as a "Flowertown in the Pines."
