S.C. Festival of Flowers: An excuse to celebrate for an entire month!

June brings a great deal of excitement to South Carolina each year. School is out, the grass is green and tickly underfoot, and the flowers… the flowers!

For the past 45 years Greenwood has turned into one big flower party for the month of June. But don’t think of the S.C. Festival of Flowers as simple garden tours and lectures. No, this is a month dedicated to celebrating flowers, which means concerts, food, gallery crawls, a horse show -- there is something for everyone in this beautiful little town. June is a peak month for many flowers. Why not throw a big party around that? Here are some upcoming highlights:

* June 8: Farm to Fork Dinner for Kids. Teach the kids that their food doesn’t magically appear on the grocery store aisle Wyatt Farms, 550 Center St., 6-7:30 p.m. Tickets: $50.

* June 23: Photography exhibition and contest awards and recognition reception. The Federal Building Uptown, 120 Main St., 5-7 p.m. Free Admission.

* June 20-24: Greenwood Community Theatre presents Man of Lamancha, featuring South Carolina native and internationally known musical actor Keith Jameson and critically acclaimed Broadway actor Nat Chandler. 110 Main St., Click here for showtimes and ticket details.

* June 22: A1A- Jimmy Buffet Tribute Show. Get ready to sing along to the songs of sand and sun at the Lander University amphitheater. 301 Lawson St., 6:30 p.m. Ticktets: $15.

* June 23: Bee Buzzin Bike Tour. This 25-mile loop ride takes bicyclers through the beautiful roads of Greenwood County. It starts at the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce and rain or shine, the ride consists of both flat land and rolling hills. 110 Phoenix St.; 8 a.m. For registration information, click here.

* June 23: Park Seed Flower Day. Tour the facility of one of America’s oldest mail order seed and plant companies. The day includes horticulturalist-guided tours, a plant sale and a chance to see the company’s nationally renowned trial gardens. 3507 Cokesbury Road, Hodges; 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
