Lake City’s South Carolina Tobacco Festival this year becomes the Palmetto Outdoor Sports Festival on Sept. 16-18.
Visitors will join locals in a weekend packed full entertainment, attractions and competitions, including kayaking and bicycling, softball, archery and golf on Sunday afternoon.
The three-day party begins in the town square at 6 p.m. Friday with a street dance featuring the Band of Oz. The official opening ceremony is Saturday morning, with festivities throughout the day including the Lake City Pageant, tractor races and tobacco tying and stringing demonstrations.
The BBQ Cook Off will take over the municipal airport and C.J. Evans Field from 6 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Saturday. Town square will be the site of a Battle of the Bands on Saturday from 4 p.m. to midnight. Activities for youngsters will offered at the Ron McNair Park and the public library on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Lake City is the second largest municipality in
Florence County, and in addition to being the site of the McNair Memorial, it is home to the Moore Memorial Museum, a renovated 1928 house, and the National Bean Market Museum, which depicts early farm life in
the Pee Dee area.
