Taking Time to Smell the Hydrangea

Rosebank Farms Hydrangea Festival

One of my favorite weekend activities is taking the long, scenic drive out to Johns Island for a visit to
Rosebank Farms
. The farm is located on the left just before the traffic circle that leads to Kiawah and Seabrook Islands. If you're not paying close attention, you could easily miss it, which would be unfortunate given all the farm offers.
The barnyard animals are a fun favorite, with pigs, goats, a cow, bunnies, and a talking bird. That's not all. There's artwork, fresh seafood, produce and lots and lots of flowers. In fact, on June 12-13, hundreds will head to Rosebank to celebrate one of the farm's most beautiful flowers: the hydrangea. This is the fifth year Rosebank Farm owners Sidi Limehouse and Louise Bennett have hosted the annual Hydrangea Festival.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors will be taken on guided tours through several acres of hydrangea beds while receiving gardening tips and advice from Sidi, who is considered an expert hydrangea grower. The folks at Rosebank also will have a huge lunch spread available from noon until 1:30 p.m. that includes whole hog BBQ served with all the trimmings. Lunch will cost $12. The gardening advice and tours are free.
Rosebank Farms is at 4455 Betsy Kerrison Parkway on Johns Island. For more information, see
