Small Town Spotlight: Abbeville, SC

Posted 4/22/2010 4:10:00 PM

If it’s history, culture and small-town charm that you’re searching for, look no further than Abbeville.

Widely known for its role in the Civil War, Abbeville is home to the Burt-Stark Mansion. Now a national landmark, the historic home was once the final meeting place of the Confederate War Council. The Abbeville Opera House is another town favorite. Built in 1908, the Opera House attracts sellout crowds and is considered the State’s rural drama theater.

Abbeville will roll out the red carpet to all of its historic landmarks during its annual Spring Festival on the Square. The 3-day event includes self-guided walking tours, food, music, vendors, amusement rides and other entertainment. The festival will take place April 29- May 1.
