Thinking about a beach trip to South Carolina’s coast? If your travels lead you to Hunting Island State Park in Beaufort County at the end of this month, you’ll be in for a sand-sational treat.

On July 31, the Friends of Hunting Island will host the 3rd annual sand sculpture contest. Bring your buckets, shovels, sand scoops and all of your creativity for this one-of-a-kind event. Visitors can compete on teams or as individuals for some great prizes. Judges will pick the winning sand sculptures based on originality, composition and technique.

The competition will take place in front of the Hunting Island Lighthouse. Registration begins at 12:30 with the competition starting at 1 p.m. The awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m. The Heritage Steel Band will provide entertainment.
