Stay and Play at Verdae Greens
Posted 6/10/2010 4:10:00 PM
It’s Friday afternoon and you realize you have no plans for the weekend. Does that mean you should finally tackle all of those household projects that have been piling up? Well sure, that’s one option. Or, as another option, you could call up a few friends and have them meet you in Greenville for a fun little golf weekend.
Considering you’re reading a golf column, I’m going to assume you went with the latter option.
Among other things,
Verdae Greens
is the perfect venue for a last minute weekend golf getaway. Located directly on Interstate 85 (and I mean directly—you could hit a 7-iron from the 17th fairway over the interstate), Verdae is part of the
Embassy Suites Greenville Golf Resort & Conference Center
, which means you can literally walk from your hotel room to the first tee in less than 5 minutes.
And speaking of golf…
While Verdae offers the convenience of an urban location, you’d never know it once you’re out on the course. Host to the Nike/Buy.com Tour (now the
Nationwide Tour
) for nine years, the William Byrd-designed course offers golfers surprisingly tranquil surroundings, along with a great variety of challenging holes. Water comes into play on 12 of the holes, and rolling hills throughout make flat lies a rarity.
At nearly 7,100 yards, playing from the tips is a challenge for any golfer. But for the average golfer, I think the blue tees (6,750 yards) are a great fit -- still very challenging, but if you’re hitting it well, there’s a chance you could walk away with a low round.
So, let those closets go unorganized for another week, and pack up the car for a great weekend of golf in Greenville. And if you’re looking for an all-inclusive trip, check out their Stay and Play packages. For more information, visit
