2010 Verizon Heritage Preview

Like most people, when I think of the Verizon Heritage, I think of Hilton Head Island, and vice-versa. From the beautiful backdrop of the Calabogie Sound to the iconic shot of Harbour Town’s signature red-and-white striped lighthouse overlooking the 18th green, the tournament and the community are inseparable in the minds of golf fans everywhere. However, this bond goes beyond the beautiful images broadcast to the golf world every spring.
The Heritage has a long history of giving back to the community. Since 1987, the Heritage Classic Foundation has distributed close to $20 million to those in need through a combination of local, regional and national charities. And for their part, the community gives right back.
Behind the scenes, the Heritage has a large and dedicated volunteer force. Numbering in the thousands, these volunteers do everything from advance sponsorship sales to handling all of the on-course duties during tournament week. The local business community chips in, also. In fact, they made a very special addition to this year’s tournament possible.
Active duty military and their families will not only be admitted to the 2010 Heritage free of charge, they also will have their own hospitality tent and gathering place. Thanks to several local restaurants, vendors and distributors, The Patriots’ Outpost will feature complimentary food and beverages during the tournament.
Trust me, clear your calendar April 15-18 and check out the tournament website (www.verizonheritage.com) for ticket info. Don’t miss your chance to witness first-hand why this is one of the most popular tour stops all year.
