Top Public Courses in South Carolina, According to Golfweek

Golfweek recently published a state-by-state ranking of public courses, and, predictably, South Carolina’s list had a coastal flavor. In fact, if you want to go ahead and book that vacation to Myrtle Beach, you can check out seven of the top 10 courses and still have plenty of gas left in the tank.

Sticking close to Myrtle Beach you’ll find Dunes Golf and Beach Club, Tidewater, Barefoot Landing-Love course and Legends Golf Complex-Heathland course. The Dunes course, designed by Robert Trent Jones in 1949, was also honored as one of Golfweek’s Best Class Courses in the country.

A short drive down the coast to Murrells Inlet will bring you to TPC Myrtle Beach, the only course on the Grand Strand to have been awarded 5 stars by Golf Digest.

And finally, a little farther down the coast and you’ll find Pawleys Island and two of the most popular courses in the area, Caledonia and True Blue, a beautiful course on what was once a thriving rice and indigo plantation.
