It’s no secret that the Heritage has always been a favorite tour stop among players, but with the recent news that the tournament was in need of a sponsor for next year, several prominent pros expressed just how much they love coming to Hilton Head in the spring.
Stewart Cink, a two-time winner of the event, described the tournament as a welcome relief after the pressure of the Masters, and “very valuable” to potential sponsors.
Davis Love III, a five-time champion, has actually spoken on the tournament’s behalf to several potential sponsors. Other past champions voicing their support include Boo Weekley and Brian Gay.
In an interview with the Associated Press, Gay described the Heritage this way:
“It’s really special to a lot of players, and it’s a unique event in a small community where everybody really rallies together.”
With so many people, from the players to the PGA Tour officials, working on behalf of the tournament, it should only be a matter of time before a sponsor steps up to ensure that professional golf continues to visit Hilton Head for many years to come.
