Tucked away on the shores of Lake Thurmond in McCormick, Monticello Golf Club at Savannah Lakes Village is not the kind of golf course you are going to stumble upon accidentally. In fact, stepping on the first tee of this beautiful course, you feel like you’ve discovered a hidden gem. That feeling returns time and time again throughout the round.

Monticello, which plays host each April to the NGA Hooters Professional Golf Tour’s Savannah Lakes Village Classic, is geographically blessed with plenty of land surrounding the course. Designer Tom Clark took great advantage of this and created a course that unfolds hole by hole like an epic novel.

The tremendous variety of distances requires every club in the bag and keeps the round interesting. For instance, the four finishing holes are (in order): 320-yard par 4; 557-yard par 5; 226-yard par 3; 378-yard par 4; and 439-yard par 4. Trust me, after you finish that gauntlet of golf holes, you definitely feel like you’ve accomplished something.

In addition to the great golf, there’s also beautiful scenery. The picturesque 3rd, 4th and 5th holes offer amazing views of the Little River Blueway region of Lake Thurmond, while rolling hills and tall pines throughout the course provide a stunning backdrop.

Members of the semi-private club prefer to play during the weekday mornings, leaving plenty of great tee times for the public. In fact, Monticello encourages afternoon and weekend play with great deals as low as $40 per golfer (green fee and cart). You can find these deals, as well as several others at
