Post-Christmas ‘greens,’ not blues: Wescott Plantation hosts junior golf camp

One of the great things about South Carolina is a good chance of decent golf weather even during the winter holiday seasons. I once had an annual ritual of playing golf with a group of friends on New Year’s Day – more than a few times in shorts.

So it makes perfect sense, and perhaps a perfect Christmas gift for youngsters, that The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation in North Charleston will be staging a three-day Christmas Junior Golf Camp on Dec. 27-29, the Friday-Saturday-Sunday weekend following St. Nick’s visit.

Cost for all three days is $125 per golfer, and with a limit of 12 golfers, the camp likely will fill up quickly. Depending on availability, parents can enroll one child at the full price and enroll a second child for half off.

No high level of skills is required; camp organizers plan a three-pronged approach – Getting off the tee, getting on the green and getting the ball in the hole. Lessons will be conducted by Perry Green, a PGA-certified pro and Wescott Plantation’s director of instruction. For more information or to register, contact Green at (843) 817-5989.

Speaking of golf-related Christmas gifts for Charleston-area players or visitors planning to spend time in the Port City, the Charleston Tee Times Golf Passbook is now on sale, offering 19 rounds of golf at non-resort member courses for $169. A limited number of passbooks are available at (843) 609-7812 or by visiting www.charlestonteetimes.com.
