RBC Heritage: S.C.’s “golfing spring break” opens ticket sales, announces entries

For golf fans, the unofficial start of spring in South Carolina arrives with the RBC Heritage, the state’s lone PGA Tour event and a tradition since 1969. And while the 45th Heritage is still a bit down the road (April 15-21), tournament officials already have tickets on sale and seven past Heritage winners committed to this year’s event.

Who better to start with than the defending champion? Carl Petterson, the Swedish native and former N.C. State player, used his solid overall game and long putter to conquer Harbour Town Golf Links’ small but challenging greens last spring.

A five-time PGA Tour winner, Petterson beat former Masters champ Zach Johnson by five strokes in 2012, riding a hot start of three birdies in the first five holes to victory. His win tied him with Jesper Parnevik for most Tour wins by a Swede.

Also returning is Brandt Snedeker, one of the hottest U.S. players on the PGA Tour after winning twice in 2012, including the year-ending Tour Championship and FedEx Cup title – a combo worth a nifty $11 million-plus. In the 2011 Heritage, Snedeker shot a final-round, 7-under par 64, then won in a playoff against that year’s Player of the Year, Luke Donald.

The 2010 Heritage champion, Jim Furyk, also returns along with two-time Heritage winners Boo Weekley (2007-08) and Stewart Cink (2000, 2004). Justin Leonard (2002) and Glen Day (1999) are other past champions returning to Harbour Town.

Both daily tickets and weeklong badges for the Heritage are on sale, online at or by calling the tournament office at (843) 671-2448. Information is also available on Facebook and Twitter.
