A few food festivals still coming up this summer

August is a tough month for outdoor festivals; we’re all a bit tired of the heat and just want to enjoy the cool indoors. But boiled peanuts, a pub crawl and barbecue make braving the heat worthwhile. Here are a few festivals and events going on in August:

31st annual S.C. Peanut Party in Pelion, Aug. 10-11: This festival that honors South Carolina’s official snack food begins on Friday evening with the Blessing of the Pots, and then the Pelion Ruritan Club gets boiling. Lots of other foods are available, and there is a parade, pet show, peanut butter and jelly sandwich eating contest, car show and entertainment.

Charleston Pub Crawl, Aug. 18: About a dozen bars are participating in a crawl from 1-9 p.m. and will offer SweetWater beer for $2 and Red Bull and Vodka drinks for $3.

Sooie't Relief BBQ Benefit in Greer, Aug. 24-25: This is a sanctioned KCBS: Kansas City BBQ Society event, with a street fair on Saturday. It’s a benefit for the Greer Relief & Resources Agency, a non-profit serving people in crisis.
