Ten South Carolina restaurants have earned Wine Spectator magazine’s second-highest award, the Best of Award of Excellence.

They are: Hampton Street Vineyard in Columbia; Seablue Restaurant & Wine Bar in North Myrtle Beach; Soby’s in Greenville; The Ocean Room in Kiawah Island; The River House in Bluffton; Charleston Grill, Cypress and Social Restaurant & Wine Bar in Charleston; and Charlie’s L’Etoile Verte and Red Fish in Hilton Head Island.

The 10 were among 878 restaurants worldwide that received the magazine’s second-tier award. Winners typically offer 400 or more wine selections.

The Grand Award went to 75 restaurants; none is in South Carolina.

The basic award, the Award of Excellence, was given to 2,842 restaurants, including 48 in South Carolina. Go here for a list of the Palmetto State winners.

The magazine’s 2012 Restaurants Wine List Awards appeared in the August issue. Wine Spectator has been honoring the world’s best wine lists for more than 30 years.
