Fall in South Carolina means it’s time to celebrate great foods like shrimp, catfish, barbecue and okra.

Here are some food festivals coming up:

Sept. 23-24: Anne Springs Close Greenway Barbecue and Bluegrass, Fort Mill
An “Anything Butt” cook off is the highlight of the festival on Friday, with barbecue teams cooking for the judges and the public on Saturday.

Sept. 23-24: Irmo Okra Strut
Sept. 24:
Irish Italian International Festival, North Myrtle Beach
While restaurants compete for Best Entrée, Best Decorated, and Best Dessert, festival-goers can vie to see who makes the best spaghetti sauce.

Sept. 24: Italian Heritage Festival, Hilton Head
In addition to area restaurants serving their specialties, there will be a pasta-eating contest and an “I Love Lucy”-style grape-stomping contest.

Sept. 24:
Edisto Shrimp Fest

Sept. 25:
Viva La Vista, Columbia
About 25 restaurants will be offering samples of their food during this fourth annual festival in the Congaree Vista.

Sept. 30-Oct. 1:
Beaufort Shrimp Festival
Friday night will feature restaurant booths and music by Deas Guyz. On Saturday, 15 local restaurants will be serving wild-caught shrimp. Restaurants will prepare shrimp dishes for competition, and there’s a shrimp-heading competition.

Oct. 1:
Newberry Oktoberfest
Do you make great liver nips? Enter the cooking competition at Newberry Oktoberfest. Local restaurants and other local vendors will be in two food courts.
