Heidi Vukov, owner of Croissants Bistro & Bakery in Myrtle Beach and the driving force behind a new Grand Strand food festival, has been named 2010 S.C. Restaurateur of the Year by the S.C. Hospitality Association. She was nominated for the award by the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association

“I’m sure they probably made me look good,” she said, adding that she did not know any of the eight previous winners of the award who voted for her.

“Within the past year she has worked tirelessly to create Coastal Uncorked Food & Wine Festival to bring something new and exciting to the month of May," the state association said in recognizing her. "The first year was a great success and certainly laid the groundwork for future growth and additional recognition of the Myrtle Beach area as a culinary destination both locally and nationally.”

Her restaurant, Croissants, is recognized as Fresh on the Menu, part of the S.C. Department of Agriculture’s Certified SC program. The designation recognizes that Vukov and Croissants are supporting South Carolina local products and produce.

Vukov opened Croissants in March 1995 in a smaller location, where the restaurant quickly gained a following as a great spot for lunch and for delectable baked goods. She moved into her current home, at 38th Avenue North and Robert M. Grissom Parkway, in March 2007.

She will accept her award in Columbia Feb. 28.
