Woodlands taking jacket donations for veterans

You don’t have to wear a jacket to dine at the Woodlands Inn in Summerville anymore, but the staff there would love for you to bring one along to donate to an unemployed veteran.
Those visiting are asked to donate jackets or other business clothing to be donated to the Summerville Workforce Center.
The Inn relaxed its dress code recently as part of a move to make the inn more relaxed and approachable. We wrote about that here earlier: www.discoversouthcarolina.com/Insider/Food/Blog/102. In the past, men were asked to wear a jacket in the dining room, so the Inn kept a supply to loan to those who showed up without one. Those jackets also will be donated to the Workforce Center.
The center will distribute the clothes to unemployed veterans who do not have professional attire for a job interview.
Casey Lavin, general manager of the Woodlands Inn, said Dorchester County, where the Woodlands Inn is located, and neighboring Charleston County both are home to many veterans because of the Naval and Air Force bases in the area. The unemployment rate in both counties is about 10 percent.
Guests donating business clothing will be treated to a complimentary appetizer and be entered in a drawing to win a two-night stay at the inn. They also will receive a half-price admission to Patriot’s Point Naval & Maritime Museum in Mount Pleasant. Both offers run through June 30.
Woodlands is South Carolina’s only AAA Five-Diamond restaurant. For more information, call (800) 774-9999 or visit www.woodlandsinn.com.
