New wine dinner series in Spartanburg

CityRange restaurant in Spartanburg just began a new wine dinner series with a Summer Bounty Farm to Table dinner.

Chef Stephanie Tornatore regularly shops at the Spartanburg farmers’ market each Saturday for fresh produce for the restaurant, so the theme seemed a natural for the first wine dinner, General Manager Catherine Bunn said.

“We’re very excited,” Bunn said. “This is our first wine dinner that we’ve done here in Spartanburg.”

The dinner started with a champagne reception before a first course of seared ahi tuna and fresh zucchini with a toasted sesame vinaigrette. The second course was slow-roasted, smoked barbecue pork belly, with basil watermelon, summer corn salsa and watercress. Braised beef cheeks and roasted bone marrow, with asparagus, micro green salad, and spring onions were the third course. The dessert course was blackberry and mascarpone cheese-stuffed grilled peaches with sabayon.

Each course was accompanied by a wine selected by the restaurant’s bar manager, Tornatore and a wine distributor representative.

Seating for the four-course dinner was limited to 40, Bunn said, but the restaurant plans to continue the dinners monthly. The cost was $39.95.

The restaurant is at 774 Spartan Blvd. CityRange also has a Greenville restaurant at 615 Haywood Road.
