BBQ masters share secrets in class for women

Women only are invited to spend a day learning the secrets of the barbecue experts Saturday, Nov. 10, at the S.C. State Farmer’s Market in West Columbia.

Instructors will be J.T. Handy and Mark Busbee, co hosts of BBQ Shop Talk radio show on Busbee is owner of Smokin’ Cole’s Sauces & Ribs and an award-winning pit master. Handy is pit master of J.T.’s BBQ and was the first South Carolina Master Barbecue Champion.

The class, which will be in the market’s demo kitchen from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., will cover methods of grilling over charcoal and the safe and proper use of gas grills. The participants will prepare barbecue chicken, baby back ribs, side dishes and desserts.

The cost of the class is $125, which includes a beef tenderloin lunch and a half rack of ribs to take home.
