Attention parents: are your children jumping off couches and swinging from the banisters? It might be time to enroll them in Pirate and Skallywag Camp at The South Carolina Children’s Theatre
They still have room in many of their camps this summer. Pirate & Skallywag Camp runs from July 23-27 for rising K4-3rd Graders and will give your kids a chance to become pirates.
While donning eye patches and wielding swords, they will learn acting skills and terminology. A little bit of group problem-solving skills are thrown in while they learn about being seen and heard on stage. The brilliantly talented and lovely Greenville actress Traysie Amick teaches the class. I guarantee she can pull even the shyest little clam out of his or her shell. My daughter was in her theater camp one summer, and though acting might not be my child’s passion, she loved Amick immensely! Other camps this summer include Junie B and Flat Stanley camp, Explore Hogwarts, Shake a Spear(e), Heros and Heroines, and Juggle and Clown.
Looking for something for your older children? Why not let them try their hand a musical theater. During ROAR camp for Grades 3-9 (July 9-13 or August 6-10) kids will learn basic singing and dance technique inspired by the Broadway musical The Lion King, which recently played at the Peace Center
. (Reading music is not necessary, but being able to carry a tune and wiggle and shake is a plus.)
While your kids are at camp, you can pamper yourself at The Spa at West End
, rent a bike from Reedy Rides
and take a ride on the Swamp Rabbit Trail
, or meet friends for a relaxing meal sans children at one of the magnificent restaurants
along Greenville’s Main Street.
