If you’re looking for a little wildlife with your holiday lights, head to Columbia's Riverbanks Zoo and Garden
this season for the terrific Lights Before Christmas.
More than one million lights and hundreds of animated images light up the zoo each evening. Check out the 20-foot Christmas tree moving to the sound of holiday tunes on the zoo’s Palmetto Plaza. Roast marshmallows around the jingle bell bonfire, and warm your hands as you sip on a cup of hot cocoa. And this year, you can walk inside the life-size snow globe and have the chance to name a penguin. On the nights leading up to Christmas Eve, visit Santa’s Village, too, for some face time with Santa Claus before the big night.
The lights display is from 6-9 p.m. nightly. It will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but open again through Dec. 30.
There is a $2 discount rate for advance tickets, making entrance $8 for adults and $6 for children ages 3-12. Purchase your advance tickets online here
or at any zoo ticket window prior to your visit. All Riverbanks members are eligible to receive one free visit when they show their membership card and picture ID at the gate. Guest passes are not accepted. Parking for the event will be on the zoo side only.
