Myrtle Beach has been named the No. 1 beach in the U.S. by the travel site Trip Advisor, beating out places like Honolulu and Miami Beach on the list of the country’s top 25 beaches.

Hilton Head Island came in at No. 17 on the list.

The best beach list is part of the website's "Traveler's Choice Awards" and is based on reviews submitted by the 20 million members who use the website.

Here’s how the site describes the South Carolina tourist destination:

“Myrtle Beach boasts some of the best beaches on America's East Coast, which are distinguished by panoramic views of the Atlantic, calm waters and soft white sand. Ideal for swimming and sunbathing, Myrtle Beach also offers plenty of family attractions, making it perfect for beach-lovers with kids.”

Myrtle Beach also ranked at No. 6 in the website’s top beaches in the world. The winner was Providenciales, an island in the Turkes and Caicos.

On another Trip Advisor ranking, Myrtle Beach ranked No. 6 in the top destinations on the site’s first Traveler’s Choice Family list. The top 10 were determined based on the number of recommendations of users who traveled with family. Anaheim, Calif., took the top spot.
