Something To Look At: “Metamorphosis: New Works by Sasha Federer” at Francis Marion University

Posted 7/30/2013 4:50:00 PM

Artist Sasha Federer has a fascinating show of new work up at the Hyman Fine Arts Center Gallery at Florence’s Francis Marion University through Aug. 8. And if you don’t live in the Florence area, it’s worth traveling there to see.

The Czech-born artist runs a pottery studio and Running Horse Gallery in Florence with his wife, Tari. In “Metamorphosis: New Works by Sasha Federer,” the public gets to see Federer’s passion for clay first hand, especially when it comes to the high-fired porcelain pieces that show a higher range of beautiful colors.

An interesting fact about Federer is that he worked for 40 years as a psychologist. But with pottery being his lifelong passion, he studied ceramic art throughout his education. He worked as professional studio potter for three years in New Hampshire and has also served as Artist in Residence with the National Endowment for the Arts.
