One-stop shopping with the Sustainable Midlands 4th Annual Holiday Celebration

Posted 11/21/2012 10:40:00 PM

One of Columbia’s many worthy charitable organizations is Sustainable Midlands, whose purpose is to “find the balance in the needs of the community, the economy and the environment through education, collaboration and celebration.”

One of the ways in which the organization celebrates local sustainability is through its annual holiday celebration. On Nov. 26 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., local artists and craftspeople will join the celebration alongside local growers, food service providers and other green businesses to sell their wares at the historic 701 Whaley building near downtown Columbia. About 35 local artisans will be on hand providing goods such as hand-printed wood cut art, abstract bird art, handmade hardcover journals, handcrafted art jewelry, decorative pottery, Christmas wreaths and much more.

For a suggested donation of $5, shoppers can sip wine, taste dishes from local chefs and shop for loved ones or themselves. As a bonus, Sustainable Midlands is giving attendees a “Buy Local” coupon book to help keep the good shopping going after the party has drawn to a close.
